Responsibilities:
Writing, Proofreading, and Copyediting:
This role involves multiple writing assignments every day, most of which need to be produced and proofread quickly. This includes producing several mass emails per month as requested and assigned. The communications manager will also proofread and copyedit writing initially produced by others.
Social Media Strategy and Engagement:
Manage People Serving People’s social media channels to ensure that content is planned, aligns across channels, and raises awareness of the organization for external stakeholders while engaging our direct community and close allies. This area of responsibility includes tasks such as:
- Develop a social media calendar to align with strategic goals.
- Create engaging social media posts consistent with organizational voice, values, and goals.
- Stay up to date on emerging trends and changes in best practices and provide recommendations for implementation.
- Engage in social listening across relevant channels and respond in a timely manner, sourcing ideas for uplifting messaging from other organizations.
- Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions to foster community engagement.
Creative Design and Production:
- Serve as a steward of the organization’s brand by building visual representations across all channels. Maintain a cohesive brand identity, including the ongoing development of PSP’s new brand. This area of responsibility includes tasks such as:
- Design and produce high-quality, brand-aligned print and digital assets grounded in best practices for content design and layout.
- Serve as the lead photographer and videographer for the organization.
- Manage photography and videography vendors as needed.
Time and Project Management:
- Plan, organize, and oversee projects to completion. Drive all logistics and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on all projects. This area of responsibility includes tasks such as:
- Build and maintain a digital asset management process (media releases, etc.).
- Interface with print vendors, freelancers, etc. on administrative matters (paper selection, print quality, invoicing).
- Ensure creative projects are completed on time and on budget.
- Manage vendors as needed.
- Pivoting to respond to internal or external situations that require publications to be developed and distributed on short notice.
Additional duties will be assigned by the Director of Communications and as part of your overall responsibly as a member of the team at People Serving People.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years’ relevant experience in independently producing compelling, high-quality content and managing digital and print media—ideally in a nonprofit, foundation, or other mission-focused setting.
- Experience and Fluency with the following: email, social platforms, project management platforms, and Adobe Creative Suite
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience and Fluency with the following: WordPress, MailChimp, Loomly, Asana, Canva
- Advanced photography and videography skills
Efficient Operator
Operates well independently and on tight timelines with strong attention to detail.
Compelling Visual Storytelling
Creates both the pictures and the storyboards for each story and audience, including fluency with graphic design and use of photography and video. Ready to tailor stories to diverse and varied audiences such as guests, staff, public officials, and funders.
Social Media Strategist
Maintains a consistent, professional, active, and values-aligned social media presence and voice across platforms. Stewards the stories of PSP and actively advances the mission of the organization through proactive social calendar planning and reactive posts on content relevant to the organization and issues.
Effective Time and Project Management
Effectively manages multiple projects with competing deadlines, priorities, and stakeholders. Collaborates effectively across PSP departments, with guests, and with any external vendors. Manages marketing and communications team vendors to results.
Exceptional Writing
Quickly produces compelling short-form writing following standard English conventions. Adopts the voice of People Serving People, committing to ethical, honest and asset-based storytelling painting a values-aligned clear picture of both the needs and the possibilities.
Cultural Humility
Exhibits consistent commitment to People Serving People’s organizational mission, vision and values both through the functions of the role and in interactions with guests, staff and other organizational stakeholders. Brings a strong racial equity lens and lived cultural humility.
Pay and Benefits:
- $60,000 - $75,000 salary
- Full-Time, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends
